چکیده
Volume 95 No. 2 February 2012 a seventy-six year old Female presented to her gastroenterologist for a workup of iron deficiency anemia, hematochezia, and newly diagnosed celiac disease. Other symptoms included fecal incontinence and anal discomfort thought to be related to hemorrhoids as well as mild bilateral lower abdominal pain. A colonoscopy revealed an endoluminal tubular foreign body firmly embedded at either end in the colonic wall approximately 18 cm from the anal verge. At this point the risk of perforation with immediate colonoscopic foreign body retrieval was deemed to be high and removal was deferred until after a surgical consultation was obtained. CT colonography was ordered for preoperative evaluation prior to planning for a combined endoscopic and laparoscopic approach to foreign body removal. CT colonography (virtual colonoscopy) demonstrated a five cm long radiodense linear foreign body traversing the lumen of the distal sigmoid colon (Figures 1 and 2). The foreign body was calcific in density with the morphology of an ingested bone. Both ends of the foreign ingested Foreign Body in the sigmoid colon: detection and localization by ct colonography

Sigmoid Perforation during CT Colonography in a Patient with an Inguinal Hernia and Concomitant Finding of a Right-Sided Colon Cancer
The use of computed tomography colonography or virtual colonography (VC) is gaining acceptance as a screening modality for colon cancer. A comprehensive understanding of VC complications is limited. We report a case of colon perforation in a patient where a colon cancer was diagnosed using VC colonography with manual insufflation. A 79-year-old patient underwent a VC after a failed screening op...
متن کاملMigration of ingested sewing needle from within sigmoid colon to outside of the lumen
Foreign body ingestion is a frequently observed condition in children. However, migration of an ingested foreign body from the gastrointestinal tract toward any abdominal organ is extremely rare. We report herein a case of a 2-year-old female patient in whom an ingested sewing needle was palpable by rectal examination and was determined to have migrated from within the sigmoid colon to outside ...
متن کاملSigmoid Colon Perforation Caused by Bone: A Rare Case Report
Ingestion of a foreign body is not uncommon, but rarely results in perforation of the gastrointestinal tract. The majority of ingested foreign bodies pass through the gastrointestinal tract without complication. Only less than 1% may cause bowel perforation, depending on the size and the shape of the foreign body [1]. Common sites of perforation are the narrow parts of the bowel. Perforation of...
متن کاملEndoscopic treatment of a sigmoid perforation caused by an ingested fish bone.
A 68-year-old man was admitted with severe abdominal pain since the previous day. His physical examination was unremarkable, except for mild lower abdominal tenderness without rebound tenderness. Laboratory tests showed he had an elevated white blood cell count (11800 cells/μL) and increased C-reactive protein (CRP) level (105mg/L). A computed tomography (CT) scan revealed a radiodense linear f...
متن کاملThe Association of Anisakiasis in the Ascending Colon with Sigmoid Colon Cancer: CT Colonography Findings
The association of anisakiasis of the colon with colon cancer is rare and difficult to diagnose. Only one case of this type has been reported to date. In this study, we report a case of synchronous colon cancer and colonic anisakiasis. A 50-year-old woman was admitted for abdominal pain, and a volume-rendered surface-shaded image of CT colonography (CTC) revealed a concentric narrowing in the s...
